Who we are
Cyprus Discovery (“we”, “us”) publishes stories about places, heritage, culture, and everyday life in Cyprus. Our website includes articles, category guides, search, optional topic suggestions in the footer, and an interactive map of articles with locations. This policy explains what information may be involved when you use those features.
Information we collect
Depending on how you use the site, the following may apply:
- Reading content: standard web server and security logs (such as IP address, browser type, date/time, and page requested) may be recorded by our host to operate and protect the site.
- Search: when you submit a search query, it is processed to return results. Queries may appear in logs required to run the service.
- Contact & topic suggestions: if you use our contact form or the footer topic form (Contact Form 7), we receive the fields you submit (for example name, email, and message) so we can respond.
- Maps: the posts map loads map tiles from third-party providers (for example Esri) to display basemaps. Those providers may process technical data typical for map delivery (such as IP address and tile requests) under their own policies.
- Website chat assistant: if you use our on-site assistant, your messages and the assistant’s replies are stored on our servers. See “Website chat assistant” below for how we use that data and your choices.
Website chat assistant
All conversations with our on-site chat assistant are saved on our servers (including text you type and the assistant’s responses). This allows the feature to work across visits and, where applicable, across devices.
You may request deletion of your stored chat data by contacting us at the email address in the Contact section below. We will handle verified requests in line with applicable law and our technical capabilities.
Stored chats may be reviewed by us only to improve, tune, and optimize the chatbot. They are not used for any other purpose (such as marketing unrelated to the assistant, or unrelated profiling).
Cookies and similar technologies
We may use cookies or local storage where needed for WordPress, security, preferences, or analytics plugins you have enabled on this installation. You can control cookies through your browser settings.
How we use information
We use the information described above to operate the site, improve our content, answer messages, prevent abuse, comply with law, and understand aggregate readership trends where analytics are configured.
Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We may share data with service providers that help us run the site (hosting, email, forms, security, or analytics), or when required by law.
Retention
We keep form submissions and server logs only as long as needed for the purposes above or as required by law. Retention can vary by system; contact us if you have a specific request.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (including the EU/EEA and UK), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of personal data, or to object or port data. To exercise these rights, contact us at the email below. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Children
Our content is intended for a general audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children without appropriate consent. If you believe we have done so, please contact us.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The “last updated” indication on this page (or the revision date in WordPress) reflects substantive changes when we publish them.
